Hi, I learned about this board on NYS Techie's PEF Members for a Fair Contract facebook page. I'm in my late 30s and have 13 years of State Service, beginning as a CSEA mail clerk. I was briefly a CSEA shop steward until I took a transfer to another agency that led to my promotion to a PEF represented traineeship position a few years back. I considered myself a liberal Democrat when I was in high school, but have identified as a socialist since I was 19 and refused to vote for either the Democrats or Republicans. I was appalled PEF gave money to Cuomo when he was bragging in election speeches about "right sizing" government at a time when my agency was already operating at bare bones. I was a "No" voter on the contract in spite of the fact that I would have actually come out ahead with step increases because I thought the contract was fundamentally unfair in principal at a time when the rich are enjoying the lowest rate of taxation since WWII and the millionaire's tax was expiring. I also so this as possibly a prelude to union busting, since I think an all give-back contract would lead some younger/newer workers to question why we even have a union, pay dues. I was happy the PEF leadership rejected a revote, but am concerned that as business unionists they do not have the experience or will to guide the union in real struggle. I have posted, sporadically, on the Times Union boards as RedAvenger as well.
