This just does not make sense to me. I saw a smattering of posts last night on Facebook about this, and heard a few talking about Christie today around the office.
Why the disconnect? Do they not get that when Christie derides government employees, unions, pensions, etc, Christie is talking about THEM? Do they not see that Christie is blaming THEM for all of governments ills?
I just don't get it. How can you be a supporter of someone who tries to use YOU as a scapegoat?

Christie reminds me of the gigantic restaurant patron in Monty Python's The Meaning of Life. I bet he eats whole chickens in one sitting. Just puts them in his mouth, pulls on the leg bones, and pop! Out comes a chicken skeleton, like in vintage cartoons.
As far as state workers liking him, well... That doesn't surprise me. My current theory holds that "people are stupid". Take any observable behavioral phenomena, apply the "people are stupid" explanation, and you'll find that the theory explains the phenomena perfectly and completely. "Ah, I see" is my usual response to this sort of thing. That and withdrawing from the immediate area in which something stupid is happening, in case the Stupid gets out of control and all Hell breaks loose.
Honestly, I have to say that working for the state has robbed me of any sort of sense of wonder or ability to be amazed. Something astonishing happens, like the thing with Sheldon Silver and all the other politicians lining up to say how horrified they are about it, and I just shrug my shoulders and say "But of course." It doesn't even faze me anymore. Of COURSE that happened. Of COURSE they're all lining up to show off what hypocrites they are. Of COURSE. What did you expect? What's for lunch? What were we talking about?
Seriously. I think I've developed a serious immunity to all this politics nonsense. I can't even get mildly perturbed anymore. I tried! Just now! I tried to get perturbed! Nothing happened, I didn't even get a "Meh".

"People are stupid" is the only thing that explains it. It's like they must be thinking "He's not talking about ME. I know *I* work hard. He MUST be talking about that OTHER GUY in the cubicle next door!"
Extreme cognitive dissonance. Yes bozo, he IS talking about YOU. That's what I want to say to these clowns.
